West Ibiza boat route
Following our list of routes to travel when we rent a boat in Ibiza, the next route stands out for having some of the most famous beaches in Ibiza. Today we talk about the West Ibiza route.
This route is ideal if the wind is predominant from East but we don't want to go to Formentera, since we may feel like a quieter route. Leaving from the port of Ibiza, we will head southwest, towards the Freus. With great caution, we will cross between the Caragoler and Es Penjats islets. In front we will find the dangerous underneath rock Sa Barqueta, which we can easily locate thanks to the foam it causes. Once passed, we will head to the beach of Ses Salinas.
It is the most famous beach on the island of Ibiza. Not surprisingly, in its four restaurants you can meet the most representative of the summer Jet Set. The restaurants (although they are now called Beach Clubs) are, in order of appearance on our route, Sa Trinxa, Jockey Club, Malibu and Beso Beach Ibiza. In any of them we can taste a great selection of Mediterranean cuisine, with fresh fish and paella as star dishes.
To anchor we have two options. The southeast zone, in some sandbar, or the northwest zone. Here we will have to reserve an ecological buoy (which protects the poseidonea meadows, so necessary for the pitiusas ecosystem) in Life Posidonea.
Bordering Sa Canal and its curious structure to ship the salt produced by the salt flats, we will find the sculptures of Cap Des Falcó, which we can go through without problem. If we immediately turn to starboard, we will find one of those special corners that we like so much to recommend. This is the cove of Cap de’s Falcó. It is a spectacular rock cove, with impressive cliffs. Its access by land is impossible, so we are facing one of those really lonely places where you can take a relaxing bath with complete tranquility. The waters have a curious greenish color, caused by seaweed from the bottom, although there are also clearings of sand and rocks. A good place to snorkel, because there are few fish that will come to our presence.
Following our route along the West Coast, we will meet Sa Caleta first and Cala Jondal later. Cala Jondal has seen its influence grow a lot in the last decade, due to the rise of Beach Clubs such as Tropicana, Yemanjá, or the famous Blue Marlin. The latter stands out for bringing well-known DJ’s to its massive parties. However, our personal recommendation to eat in this cove is that of Es Xarcu. Traditional Ibizan cuisine, with specialties in rice (paella) and baked fish (do not forget to order the baked Dentol, a true delight).
After enjoying a good meal, we will follow our route. Our next stop will be Porroig and Es Torrent. A quiet area to bathe and enjoy stunning views of red cliffs (its name is not in vain derived from the expression Port Roig, "red port"). A perfect place to snorkel in peace of mind, given its little boat traffic. Seaweed and rock bottoms will do the wonders of the most curious divers.
As the last stop on our route we can do nothing but stop at Cala D’Hort to enjoy the magical views of Es Vedrá. The advantage of having chosen a rental boat is that it allows us to enjoy the visit passing very close to the ineffable and iconic islet. Costing it whole island is a true experience, although there is only one area, north of the islet, between it and the Galera islet where we can anchor.
